The Managakatana Weapons Used by the Samurais

It won’t be wrong to say that Samurais were the most skilled and fearless warriors. History has preserved how they displayed bravery and skills of using different weapons during wars. Not just that they were awesome, considering their abilities to battle, but their weapons had a different class as well. We often talk about the Samurai swords, but we tend to ignore many other spectacular weapons and equipment that they used to win battles with immense ease. We have brought the most fascinating weapons and equipment used by the Samurais, and here we are enlisting them:

The Katana Sword

Katana was the iconic samurai sword that many people think katana is just a synonym of samurai. However, if we explore the history, we figure out that mangakatana was the foremost weapon used by the Samurais for battling their enemies. If we pick the most badass swords of all time, katana deserves to be on the list. It is a long bladed sword with a slight curve at the bottom of the blade. For a long time, it served as a primary fighting weapon for them. They had often worn this sword on their left hip and pulled it out suddenly to launch an attack on their enemies.

Kusari-Fundo

Many people confuse it with nunchucks. But, get your facts right because it is not a nunchaku. However, it does look like a nunchaku. It is a chain with two steel sticks attached to it. There were holes at the top of the sticks from which the chain was passed and tied so that they stayed connected with each other. It was also used as a weapon for self defense. At most of the occasions, samurais were equipped with the kusari-fundo. During battles, it was used as a defensive weapon to block the strikes of the swords by the enemies.

Bows and Arrows

Everytime you explore the ancient weapons, bows and arrows come up as the main weapons used against the enemies. Many people confuse them with spears, but there are slight differences between the two weapons. Arrows have less sharpened tips. Like most of the ancient warriors, Samurais also used bows and arrows. They were skilful archers who used bows and arrows to their advantage during battles. They were never preferred as the primary fighting weapons, but were used in combination with other weapons, such as swords. They could be used from a distance which advantaged them in battles.

Wakizashi

Among the Samurai swords, wakizashi was another one, but it never served as a primary weapon for fighting. It was rather used as a combination with katana. Mangakatana was carried as the main weapon, but wakizashi was the secondary weapon. The major purpose of this sword was to block the attack of the enemies. However, at times, it also served as a main fighting sword in case katana was lost or broken. This sword was shorter in size compared to katana but had similar strength in its blade.
